1392

The Turks spread over the region of Western Macedonia.

Settlers from the region of Epirus (Premeti, Bithikoukion, Kosdiani), who had found shelter- chased by the Turks and Albanians- in Selitsa (Eratyra), settled down in Calivia - Paliospita, a region with a rudimentary settlement. As time went by, they gradually moved to the east and settled in the region called Tsampra, or  Sk'rkan, meaning rocky ledge.

1649

After Albanians destroyed the historical village and fort, Kteni, 120 families with their provost, Ioannis Trantas or Trantogiannis ?who was rich and owner of a flock of twelve thousand goats and sheep" came to Kozani and settled in the region of Krevvatakia.

1664

The son of John Trantas, Charisios, with a Sultan decree builds the town of Malikanes which, according to the Ottoman decree, had special privileges. The town was taken under the patronage of the Sultan?s mother.  Charisios Trantas builds large houses and founds the church of St. Nicholas; he manufactures fountains, plants trees, prescribes a place as the market place. Because of what he did for the town, he is considered to be the town?s first lord.

1721

Renovation of the church of St. Nicholas. It s hagiography was made in 1730 by two brothers, Nicholas and Theodore, who were from the town of Giannena.

1830

Kozani was occupied by Albanians and Aslan Bey. They wildly plundered the town for 27 days. During the looting both the golden bull of Andronicus and the Sultan decree which defined the town as Malikanes were stolen.

1879

Establishment of the municipality of Kozani which until 1879 it was merely a community. Its first mayor was N. Halkias.

1904

Pavlos Melas crossed the town. He met with the Bishop and stayed in the house of N. Maloutas. The people of Kozani (Karalivanos, Visvikis, Koutsoukis )took part in the Macedonian uprising: P. Melas. Is killed in Statitista. The people of Kozani are massacred by Bulgarians; Karalivanos is captured and the houses of justice are burnt down.

October 11th , 1912

After 459 years of Turkish slavery, Kozani is liberated.

June 4th, 1941

The city hall and the belfry are bombarded by the Germans. Occupation. Hunger.

1942

Establishment of  the Prefectural Committee of EAM (Bishop Iokeim, Georgiadis, Pantazopoulos, Papalioulias, Mich. Soumelidis).

The Bishop of Servia and Kozani, Ioakeim, (1924 - 1942) joins the Mountain Resistance movement.

1956

Rail link with Ptolemaida.
Mr. Dionysios Psarianos from the island of Andros- a deeply spiritual person with a great literary and musical work- becomes bishop of Servia and Kozani.

1969

The Letters and Arts Association is founded.

2012

Kozani celebrates 100 years of liberation from the Turkish slavery.

The central square is the place where visitors can see the Town Hall, the Clock- the trademark of Kozani- the church of St. Nicholas, and all the locals who cross the square during the day. From here visitors can start their walk either to the mansions of Lassani and Vourkas or to the pedestrian walkway of Peace, where the young meet before they ?vanish? in the clubs and cafes of the city.
