"A Museum is not an exhibition of dead objects. It is a living reality, a talking story and continuation and as such we must face the Folklore-Ethnological and Natural History Museum of Kozani. "

Stelios Papathemelis

In the '70s the local community of Kozani and the Arts and Letters Association were concerned with the very problem of the construction of the Folklore Museum. Thus, with a unanimous decision the City Council granted the site of the Municipal Baths for its construction.

The Museum was founded on November 19th, 1980 but its construction ended in August 1983.However, it took four years of uninterrupted work to classify and exhibit cultural heritage and natural environment artifacts.

The local community struggled hard to find the necessary financial resources to fund its construction.

The Museum was finally inaugurated on October 10th, 1987, on the eve of the anniversary celebration for the release from the Ottoman domination.
